"Time is the longest distance between two places"
- Tennessee Williams
I wonder if you have ever experienced "Travel Time warp"? What's that I hear you ask! A sort of sci-fi film? An 80's musical? No, not quite. Let me explain.
Imagine you are going on a journey to a place you've never been before. You know the general sort of direction to go in and have a rough idea of the way, but because you've never been there before you don't know what to look out for. What signs, landmarks or buildings should you look for? It's all new to you and you have no clue when this road will end.
Now, imagine that the place you are going to is somewhere you really, really want to go. Maybe its a holiday destination? Maybe its to a festival? Wherever it is you are going, you are really eager to get there. But first...the journey.
The journey seems to take forever. You think it's close but the road just keeps on going. It feels like you have been travelling for ages but, eventually, you get there.
After your busy day at the festival/holiday etc. it's time to travel home and, to your surprise, the return journey seems somewhat shorter. A lot shorter. It' seemed to take a lot longer to get to where you were going to than it took to get home.
That's it! That is what I mean by "Travel Time Warp". What a strange thing time is!
Tomorrow I start a new role as part of my job, and that means me having to travel to a place I have never been before. So today I went in search of this new location. I had a rough idea of the location and the sort of direction I needed to go in but all too soon I was experiencing "Travel Time Warp". It took what seemed ages to get there, but having found the place and driven back, I was home in no time at all. All very odd. This "Travel TIme Warp' is a very bizzar thing!
What has this got to do with anything? Well, read on!
In life we all go through different situations and problems which, at times, seem to go on for ages. You may not even know when the road will end. It's like we face a "Travel Time Warp". Maybe its something you've been anticipating or a situation or problem that seems to be endless. Life is often made up of journeys that, at certain times, seem to take longer to get through that others. Everyone knows the saying "Time flies when your having fun" but what about when you're not having fun? Or when you're going through a tricky time? Is the saying then, "Time drags when you're being sad?" Well, I don't think so.
Everything we go through in life is part of the journey of becoming who we are. Very often we go through situations and times where the journey of life seems a long and winding one. Yet, when we come through the situation or problem that we were facing and look back on what we've been through, very often it seems like we have been in a "Travel Time Warp". What was all the fuss about? It really wasn't that long of a journey after all! Plus you probably achieved a lot while you were on the journey anyway. At least next time you're on a similar journey you will know those signs to look for that tell you you're close to the end!
So I end with this thought.
The next time you're going through a situation or problem that seems to be endless and you can't seem to find a way out just think about "Travel Time Warp". The journey to the unknown places in life are very often longer than the journeys to those places you know well. Just keep your eye out for the signs and you'll be there in no time. After all, the longest journey's often lead to the best places.
So buckle up, it's gonna be one heck of a ride!
