New year, new start, new blog! - Oh the cliche!

"Your life isn't written in cement as a child. You write each chapter as you go along!"
- Harry stack Sullivan

So it's been a while since I have written a blog and definitely time to get back to it. Its a new year so time for new blog. Let's see if I can keep this one up! 365 blogs - ouch that hurts the brain!

I guess I should start by saying "HAPPY NEW YEAR!"

You probably haven't had to look very far over the last 2 days to find a wide range of different New year messages, tweets and Facebook statuses appearing on your computer.  The usual cliche messages we read every year. I guess New Years is a time of the year when you have to just expect the old cliches. New year, new me, new start, new chance etc. In fact the very title of this blog is, I guess, a little cliche. But it's true!

New years is a time of newness. A time when people have a new hope, a new expectation, that the coming year is going to be a time when they will make the most of opportunities that come their way, that they will be better people, that they will make the most of life and what's wrong with that? Answer - Nothing!

This year it seems that lots of people have been on a bit of a mission against these sorts of statuses and tweets. People complaining about the usual statuses that appear at this time of year. And even though everyone knows they are a little bit cliche (even those posting them) does that really matter?

How many times in life do we do the 'cliche' things that people have come to expect from us? Dressing up for a national day, putting up statuses on valentines day, remembering special events like birthdays and christmas. I guess these are all times when we have come to expect the 'cliche' moments to happen - but is that really a bad thing? No!

Truth is that New year is a time when people have a hope for the year ahead, they have an expectation that they will be bigger, stronger, better people. And personally, no matter how cliche it might be, that can only be a good thing.

And so I end with this thought.

New years is a time where people are filled with hope, with an attitude that they will make the most of every opportunity. A time when people forget about the barriers and events that held them back last year, and look forward to a year when nothing is going to stop them. We become sort of like superheroes, looking at life as if we are invicnible and I think that is a great attitude to have.

Sure all of us will have times this year that aren't great, and we're probably not gonna bring world peace around in 2014. But that's not important! What is important is that whatever this year brings you, you can look back next New Years and say to yourself, "This year I am bigger, better and stronger than I was last year." No matter what happens in 2014, if you can say those words on January 1st 2015 then this year will have definitely been a success.

Have I become famous in 2013? No. Was 2013 a brilliant year for me? No way! Did I make it through the 2013 without any troubles?  Nope! But...

Can I look back at 2013 and say I am a bigger, better stronger person than last year? Absolutely! Can I look back over the last year and say I overcame difficult situations and circumstances I thought would never end! Yes! Has there been anything that has defeated me? Not at all. Truth is, no matter what happened to you in 2013, you are better than you were last year!

So as 2013 becomes a distant memory and 2014 stands before you, be confident that this year you will be a bigger, stronger, better person than you were last year.

Don't let past hurst, events, situations or circumstances effect your outlook on the year ahead. 2014 is full of endless opportunities and you never know what could be waiting for you just around the corner - no matter how cliche it sounds!

2013 has gone. Last word written. Full stop in place. It's time to turn the page and begin writing Chapter "2014". Hold the pen, ready to start the new chapter. It's about to begin and it's completely unwritten!

Happy new year to you all, and may it be the best one yet!

Bywyd yn digwydd - Life happens!

Ryan :)
